Maleation of polypropylene has a considerable impotrance for the polymer blends of polypropylene, PP composites and polymer recycling. In all of these areas, the resulting copolymers are utilized and their structura features depend on the functionalization procedure and additives. The graft reaction of maleic anhydride and the β-scission of PP take place spontaneously during the synthesis of PP-g-MA. The grafting mechanism of PP-g-MA involves hydrogen abstraction in polypropylene and grafting of maleic anhydride in the melt state. The structure of grafted MA comprises two distinguishable species, succinic anhydride and polymaleic anhydride. In this work, we attempted to confirm the effect of the grafted succinic anhydride and polymaleic anhydride on spectroscopy and mechanical properties. For the analysis of IR spectra three industrial samples with different structures were prepared. Also "iterative" curve fitting program called PEAKFIT provided from Systat Software Inc. was used. |
