Fabrication of self-bundled nanofibrous scaffolds for nervous system regeneration |

To treat several incurable neural diseases, neural tissue engineering has drawn attention as a combination of cells, scaffolds and drug delivery. Especially, tissue engineering scaffolds is key for nerve regeneration because of their capability to connect nerve gap and aligning cells which can induce functional recovery of nerve system. The fabrication of scaffolds using electrospinning that induce cell and neurite alignments was conventionally executed by rotating collector with high speed. However, a new way to produce aligned scaffolds is introduced in this study. For fabrication of aligned self-bundled scaffolds, ionic salts were added to polymer solution and a rotate collector with low speed was customized. The characteristics of the scaffolds were analyzed and the applicability of the scaffolds for nerve regeneration was evaluated by cell studies. This self-bundled electrospinning technique has potentioal for advanced electrospun scaffolds and neural tissue engineering. |
