Polymerization of cyclotriphosphazene material potentially can be performed to yield linear and cyclomatrix backbone structures. The linear configuration has been studied extensively. But cyclomatrix structure have been less studied due to the complexity of synthesis. A novel class of flame retardants has been synthesized by reacting cyclohexachlorotriphosphazene with phenol, bisphenol A, bisphenol S, resorcinol, and hydroquinone respectively. These compounds have cyclolinear or cyclomatrix structures. These compounds were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, thermal gravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. Flame retardancy of these compounds were examined using UL 94 method and measuring limiting oxygen index. |
