Sorption behavior of metal ions on silk sericin bead in a column system |

The removal and recovery of metal ions from wastewaters are very important in many field because of remediation of wastewaters and recovery of valuable metal ions before their release to the environment. Silk sericin (SS) is a one of the silk proteins that draw attention to many researchers due to dump during degumming process. Thus, SS has been studied for recycling and application to many areas. So we previously prepared silk sericin bead as a low-cost and environment-friendly sorbent for removal and recovery of metal ions from wastewaters. This study was focused on the sorption process of silk sericin beads depending on the experimental variables and considering possibility of column mode that was suitable for automation and industrial applications. We expect this study will be useful in controlling the effects of some operational variables and designing of sorption systems. |
