Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) has been used as an alternative green solvent with rapidly becoming an attractive solvent for polymer synthesis and processing because it is non-toxic, non-flammable, inexpensive, recyclable, and environmentally friendly. In this study, we prepared nano sized SiO2 particles and PMMA encapsulated SiO2 by dispersion polymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide. SiO2 nano particles were modified with 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (γ-MPS) as silane coupling agent. The nanocomposites of SiO2/PMMA were characterized by IR, SEM, and TEM. |
