Hairs of man, hairs of dog and cotton fiber were useful as templates to prepare tubes of different materials such as silica, titania, iron oxide and alumina. Other biological materials such as mushroom and meat also served as templates to prepare replicas of the original materials that had much stronger walls. SEM images of human hair calcined for different period of times showed the tube formation might be related to the medulla. Tubular structures with complex structures can be easily prepared using hiairs as the templates. |
