제목 | Size of PMMA beads with various parameters in suspension polymerization |
초록 | Acrylic-based bone cements are widely used in dentistry and orthopedic surgery.1 Poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA), as a standard, is used to fill the gap between the prosthesis and the surrounding bone in cemented arthroplasties.2 PMMA bead size is important for bone cement because it affects the properties of the dough stage of the bone cement, such as viscosity and flow. In this study, the size distribution of Poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) was investigated according to suspension polymerization parameters such as monomer concentration, stabilizer concentration, co-monomer type. Particle size were prepared with dispersion medium such as Poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone)(PVP), initiator such as Benzoyl peroxide(BPO) and monomer such as Methyl methacrylate(MMA). The effects of various polymerization parameters on the size were analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and Particle Size Analyzer. And the changes of molecular weight evaluated Gel permeation chromatography(GPC). The results showed that particle size increased through increasing concentration of monomer, concentration of the suspension stabilizer, decreasing ratio of the styrene and increasing ratio of the PMMA beads. The results showed that mean diameter around 50㎛ were obtained from PVP(10%) solution 2wt% of dispersion medium and the monomer concentration 10wt% of dispersion medium Reference 1.
