PdO Nanoclusters on WO3 Nanosheets for Promotion of the Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction Reaction |

Modulation of the electronic structures of electrocatalysts is an effective way to improve their electrocatalytic activities. To enhance the activities of Pd electrocatalysts for the ORR, several synthetic strategies have been reported, including morphology control, alloying Pd with other metals, and supporting Pd or PdO on metal oxides, which require complex processes and high-temperature annealing. Here, we report a mild and effective approach for the facile synthesis of PdO/WO3Sx hybrid electrocatalysts (PdO@WO3Sx) via PdO nanocluster deposition-induced conversion of metallic WS2 nanosheets into WO3 in H2O at 50 °C for 1 h. Strong coupling of PdO to WO3 nanosheets was confirmed by experiments and computational simulations, causing shifts in the d-band centers of the hybrids. As-prepared PdO@WO3Sx exhibited excellent catalytic activity and durability for electrocatalytic ORR under basic conditions, compared to commercial Pt/C electrocatalysts. |
