Synthesis of PEO-based macromonomer and macroinitiator |

The well defined macromonomer and macroinitiator utilized in chain extension of several polymers can be readily synthesized via chain-end functionalization of living polymer using high vacuum techniques. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based macroinitiator was synthesized by the reation of polymeric lithium alkoxide with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide. PEO-based macromonomer was also prepared by the reation with methacryloyl chloride. The molecular weight of PEO was readily controlled via living anionic polymerization. The functionalization yields were over 80 mol% on the basis of the results from ¹H-NMR spectroscopic analysis. In this presentation, we will report the results for the living polymerization of ethylene oxide and it’s functionalization. |
