Synthesis and characterization of bioreducible PEG-PBLA2 miktoarm copolymers for anticancer drug delivery |

Recently, a phospholipid-mimicking amphiphilic AB2 miktoarm polymers have attracted much attention for their self-assembling nano-structures and potential applications in drug delivery. In this study, a bioreducible AB2 miktoarm copolymers consisting of one hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) block and two hydrophobic poly(β-benzyl L-aspartate)blocks. The PEG-PBLA2 miktoarm copolymers could form self-assembled nanoparticles in aqueous media and efficiently encapsulated an anticancer agent, doxorubicin. The dissociation of the nanoparticle structure was effectively induced by the cleavage of the disulfide bonds in response to intracellular reductive conditions, triggering the rapid drug release. The PEG-PBLA2 miktoarm copolymer based nanoparticles can be useful as a promising nanocarrier for anticancer drug delivery, due to high loading efficiency and capacity, non-toxicity, and high anticancer efficacy due to fast intracellular release. |
