Polymerization of propylene oxide have been carried out by using silica supported DMC (Si-DMCs) catalyst prepared by reacting ZnCl2 and K3[Co(CN)6]2 in the presence of various amount of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The catalysts were characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. The polyether polyols produced by silica supported DMC catalysts are exhibit ultra low unsaturation level, high molecular weight, low viscosity, narrow polydispersity compared to the products obtained by conventional DMC and base catalysts. The activity was increased with lower amount of TEOS. It was found that 0.005 mol/g DMC supporting amount is the optimum condition for higher polymerization activity. |
