In this study, we have focused to enhance a operation time of IPMCs in air. Using an alkali metal ion as a counter ion and H2O as a medium, the conventional IPMCs have been suffered from short service life in dry atmosphere. To increase the stability, we employed organic cations in IPMCs via a cation substitution. Organic cations displayed an acceptable mobility, allowing us to use organic media. Especially, ionic liquids were used as media to overcome critical limitations of IPMCs such as a high volatility and a low decomposition voltage of water. Through the introductions of organic cation and ionic liquids, we have demonstrated more stable performance under an anhydrous condition. |
