Preparation and Characterization of Super High Molecular Weight Polyether Polyols |

Polymerization of propylene oxide (PO) has been carried out by double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst prepared by reacting ZnCl2 and K3[Co(CN)6]2 in the presence of butyl lactate as a main complexing agent and Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) as a co-complexing agent. The DMC catalyst in the polyol was removed by treatment with hydrogen peroxide. Super high molecular weight polyol was prepared using purified polyol as a polymerization initiator. The yielded polymers are analyzed by 1H NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography and viscometry. The unsaturation level and OH value of the polymers were also determined by titration. |
