제목 Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy and Polarized VUV Spectroscopy of DNA-Based New Materials
초록 We have studied the optical properties of DNA-based new materials in free-standing layer form and in aligned thin-film form. In order to obtain the complex refractive index (ñ), dielectric function (ϵ̃), and optical conductivity (σ̃) of free standing DNA layers, we performed terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). In the low-frequency region from 3 to 40 cm-1, the refractive index ranges from 2 to 3, suggesting low reflection losses due to refractive index mismatch. The aligned DNA thin films were fabricated on quartz substrates by a brush technique. To analyze the absorption spectrum of such line-pattern DNA thin films depending on the aligned direction, we carried out optical polarimetry in the terahertz and visible UV regions. For the visible-UV spectroscopic analysis, the absorption feature at 260 nm, the π-π* transition, is largely affected by the polarization of light relative to the aligned direction of DNA. Our results show that a joint set of spectroscopic tools are useful probes to characterized DNA-based materials.
