Immobilization of protein in organic-inorganic nanohybrid matrix |

The immobilization of protein on solid substrates is a key step in the development of medical diagnostics, biomaterials, biochips, and biosensors. In particular, functional protein multilayer assemblies using the layer-by-layer adsorption technique are receiving broad scientific attention as simple and flexible model system in bioelectronics and for biomimetic signal transfer. A number of protein multilayer designs have been reported, all of which are stabilized by a polyelectrolyte matrix. However, the signal of protein within the assemblies formed by sequential deposition shows practically no dependence on the number of layers. The purpose of this study is to overcome drawbacks of the conventional protein multilayer assemblies. Here we report the fabrication, characterization and analytical performance of an effective immobilization of native protein in organic/inorganic nanohybrid matrices. |
