Synthesis and Characterization of alkylthio side chain containing benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b’]dithiophene-Based 2D-conjugated Polymer for Organic Photovoltaic Cells |

Two-dimensional (2D)-conjugated copolymers based on benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b’]dithiophene(BDT) with 2-((2-Ethylhexyl)bithiophene) or 2-((2-Ethylhexyl)thio)bithiophene), respectively and benzothiadiazole (BT) with thiophene as the π-bridge(PBDTBT-DTBT and PBDTBT-S-DTBT) were designed and synthesized as donor materials for Organic photovoltaic cells. The introduction of S atom with some π-acceptor capability due to the formation of pπ(C)-dπ(S) orbital overlap is effective in further lowing the HOMO energy level to attain higher open-circuit voltage(Voc). Bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells were fabricated with an conventional structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer:PC71BM/Ca/Al. The device fabricated using the PBDTBT-S-DTBT:PC71BM as an active layer shows a maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of up to 2.05% with an open-circuit voltage of 0.83 V, a short-circuit current of 7.56 mA/cm2, and a fill factor of 0.33 under air mass 1.5 global (AM1.5G) illumination conditions (100 mW/cm2). |
