Highly monodisperse polymer/flagrant oil microcapsules were prepared by using solute co-diffusion method (SCM). This is novel method for loading core materials into a polymeric particle and it is composed of monodisperse polymer particles, a slightly water-soluble solvent, a water-insoluble solute dissolved freely in solvent, and the water containing small amount of surfactant. For this experiment, dispersion polymerization was used to prepare swellable liner and crosslinked polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) particles with narrow size distributions, and suspension polymerization was used to prepare polydispersed PMMA particles. The crosslinker was synthesized by the reaction of polypropyleneglycol (PPG) and acryloyl chloride, followed by the analysis of chemical structure and physical properties with FT-IR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Fragrant oils were encapsulated in the respective PMMA particles by SCM technique and then we investigated the releasing behaviors considering the effect of crosslinking density, particle size distribution, and operating temperature. |
