Superior N2 selectivity of PtVW catalyst in simultaneous NH3 and CO oxidations |

Installing a selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) catalyst has proven effective in controlling downstream emissions from the NH3-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, particularly for CO and NH3 slip. Motivated by this, we have focused on developing the oxidation catalyst for simultaneous CO and NH3 control, where the PtVW supported on TiO2 exhibited a superior N2 selectivity compared to the Pt-only. This study provides vital insights into "Pt-V interaction" in NH3 and CO co-oxidation characterized by systematic reactor data, surface analysis and DFT calculations. We attributed the superior N2 selectivity to the formation of distinct Pt-O-V bimetal sites, which are crucial in initiating "internal-SCR" and "CO-SCR". In addition, this work further demonstrated the improvement of overall performance using dual zoning of monolith reactor comprised of commercial SCR (VW/TiO2) in the front and the SCO (PtVW/TiO2) in the rear for the emission control of CO, NH3 and NO with highly active N2 selectivity. |
