Introduction of a grafted architecture into a specific block of the linear diblock copolymers produces "comb-coil" type block copolymers (CCBCP). CCBCPs having an A-b-B-g-C type architecture are considered as a classs of hybrid block copolymers that have the structural characteristics of both linear diblock copolymers and densely grafted polymers. In this study, a series of well defined multi-furcated PMMA-b-PBPEA-g-PS was synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The linear diblock copolymers consisting of initiating sites on a specific block was obtained by ATRP of MMA, followed by ATRP of TMS protected HEA as a backbone for the graft polymerization. Grafting of PS via ATRP yielded the desired complex architecture. Characterization of synthesized polymers as well as their phase separation behavior was investigated by SEM and AFM. |
