Block copolymer which are composed of two or more chemically distinct polymer blocks covalently bonded together form more complex and larger supramolecules. They have been attracting much attention from academic researchers and industrial scientists for their important realized and potential applications in biomimetic studies, drug delivery systems. In this study, well-defined linear block copolymer poly[L-lysine-HEMA]-b-poly[MEO2MA-co-OEGMA] was synthesized atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The vinyl monomers were synthesized by the esterification of Boc-L-lysine and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), followed by subsequent ATRP of the monomer to produce a desired polymer with controlled structure. From this macroinitiator, ATRP of MEO2MA and OEGMA produced the block copolymer having the desired complex architecture. Characterization of synthesized polymers as well as their LCST behavior and chiral selectivity will be discussed. |
