A long-term stable electrochromism of P3HT by surfactant-assisted graphene oxide layer |

The electrochemical stability of organic materials has been known as unstable characteristics during the redox reactions, which is mainly due to degradation caused by the mechanical problems in electrolytes during the ionic exchanges. As one of the effective methods for the stable performance of EC reactions against such problems, incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) into the polymer matrix has been introduced to solve the stability issue because GO has known to significantly improve the physical properties of polymers via strong GO-polymer interactions. Moreover, as one of the advanced techniques, modified GO surface through the incorporation of surfactant was broadly reported that its hybrid GO can promotes its hydrophobic properties for the better mutual interactions with specific polymer chains. In this study, we investigated the enhanced electrochromic properties of polymer electrochromic materials (P3HT) induced GO-octadecylamine (ODA) complex protective layer. In order to form an ultra-thin GO-ODA layer on P3HT films, GO-ODA composite was transferred to on the spin-coated P3HT layer by using Langmuir-Schaefer techniques. By ths technique, highly covered GO-ODA protective layer on the P3HT layer was obtained having strong interactions with them. These features induced a superior long-term stability compared to pristine P3HT layer against electrochromic reactions. |
