제목 Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles with Various Functional Groups: Cytotoxicity and Genotoxicity
초록 Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have diverse possibilities of application in biomedicine. They can be used such as improving site-specific drug delivery, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast enhancement, hyperthermia treatments and so on. SPIONs (Fe3O4) were synthesized by Massart’s method. For conjugation with various functional groups, they were either functionalized by 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) and trisodium citrate or coated with thin layer of silica by tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). We made five kinds of differently surface-modified SPIONs and investigated their biocompatibility in vitro. The cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of SPIONs prepared with various functional groups to fibroblastic cells were measured by MTT and Comet assays, respectively. It was found that SPIONs affected the cell viability and DNA stability of L-929 fibroblastic cells in a dose-dependent manner.
