In this study, effect of PIR and incorporation of functionalized POSS into polyurethanes (PUs) on thermal and ablation properties was investigated. The influencing factors on the degree of NCO conversion and PIR concentration were studied. Poly(urethane-isocyanurate)/POSS composites were synthesized by one–step bulk polymerization using Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) prepolymers, PMDI and either reactive or unreactive POSS. Thermal stability of the composites was characterized by using TGA, and was significantly improved by PIR and POSS. PIR and POSS were also found to enhance ablation properties by oxy-acetylene torch test. |
