Sodium silicate is used in peroxide bleaching as source of alkali and as a buffer necessary for a controlled rate of bleaching. But, the main disadvantages of sodium silicate addition are the formation of insoluble silicates which precipitate on equipment. Thus, various sequestering agents are applied to peroxide bleaching system of DIP process to replace sodium silicate. The extent of the contribution to bleaching process is related to the chemical properties of the sequestering agents. The DTPMPA is more stable to oxidation in peroxide bleaching and thus provides a better bleaching efficiency than the other organic sequestering agents such as DTPA, EDTA, HEDTA, and crown ether. |
