In situ functionalization of polymeric micelles for theragnostic applications |

Multifunctional micelles hold great promise in simultaneous diagnosis of disease and targeted drug delivery with minimal toxicity. One of the challenges in theragnostic micelles is stabilizing and functionalizing with holding both of imaging probes and therapeutic drugs. In this study, iron oxide and drug loaded micelles were developed via biosynthetic reaction as a novel functionalized theragnostic micelle. This theragnostic micelle was prepared by a solvent evaporation method. Drug release rate of the micelles was prolonged due to their enhanced stability in comparison with non-crosslinked micelle. We have also established that the hydrophilic shell can be functionalized chemically without diminishing the stability. Obtained results demonstrated that this micelle has potential for an improved theragnostic system with enhanced stability. |
