Minoxidil is one of widely used drugs in alopecia treatment. However, for MXD administration, the skin must be applied in the form of solution, resulting in low transdermal delivery efficiency and additional side effects. In this study, we prepared poly(Lactide-co-Glycolide) grafted hyaluronate (HA-PLGA) nanoparticles(NPs) as transdermal delivery carrier of minoxidil using W/O/W emulsion method and evaluated the feasibility of NPs for alopecia treatment. The NPs are characterized by DLS, TEM and UV-Vis spectrum. They showed the spherical core-shell structure and exhibited sufficient loading efficiency as well as sustained release of drug in HA-PLGA NPs. By in vitro cellular uptake and cell viability test, we could confirm that NPs were uptaken into the cells and didn’t show any significant cytotoxicity. In addition, NPs could be successfully delivered into the skin through skin penetration test. With these results, our HA-PLGA NPs are suitable for transdermal delivery of minoxidil. |
