A new class of high performance hybrid epoxy composite incorporated with short carbon fiber (SCF) and carbon nanotube (CNT) is fabricated and characterized in this work. The surfaces of SCF and CNT are functionalized and dispersed in an DGEBA/DDS system, expecting the synergic effects of the nano-sized CNT and micron-sized SCF. Tensile, impact, dynamic mechanical properties of the hybrid composites are measured. The dispersion of the fillers and fractured surface morphology are observed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). |
