Modification of some oxides by organic and organosilicon compounds
Highly dispersed oxides SiO2, TiO2, ZnO, and TiO2/SiO2 modified by organic [di(ethylene glycol), glycerol, butanol, and methanol] and organosilicon (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, hexamethyldisilazane, methacryloyloxymethylenemethyl diethoxysilane, and blend of methylcyclosiloxanes) compounds were studied by IR spectroscopy and quantum chemical ab initio and semi-empirical methods. Unmodified and modified oxides were tested as additives in ethyl cellulose and nitrocellulose coatings for improvement of their adhesion properties and light and corrosion resistance. The results obtained show the possibility of improving these properties.
