Control Structure Selection of an Ideal Reactive Distillation Column
The selection of process control structures has attracted significant attention in the past 3 decades. Two approaches have emerged. The first approach uses heuristics or previous knowledge in order to develop plausible control structures, while the second is model-based and systematic. In this work a challenging case study is considered with the aim being to demonstrate that the systematic methodologies can outperform the empirical approaches.
