Local Measurement Techniques for Multiphase Flows
Multiphase flows of droplets, bubbles or solid particles in continuous liquid or gaseous phases control most of today's processes in nearly every industrial branch. Despite the central significance of multiphase flows the prediction of temperature and concentration distribution and the distribution in the dispersed phases has not been fully achieved with today's accuracy requirements due to complex fluid mechanical transport phenomena in broad magnitude scales in boundary layers and anisotropic turbulence. To gain further understanding in multiscale transport processes local measuring methods for multiphase flows are required that enable the acquisition of data with high spatial and temporal resolution without disturbing the flow field. A survey of currently available local measurement methods for multiphase flows is presented.
