Resources and resource-efficient measures require an increased attention especially in an environment of scarce raw materials and volatile commodity prices. However, the practical implementation of measures to improve resource-efficiency reveals to be enormously complex, mainly due to the great dynamics of the globalised markets. In order to benefit from the upcoming chances in a sustainable manner, a thorough knowledge of the raw material value chains is necessary, which are influenced by social, economical, ecological and political factors.
