Syntheses and Characterizations of the New Tetranuclear Rhenium Cluster Compounds Re-4(Mu(3)-Q)(4)(Tecl2)(4)Cl-8 (Q=s,Se, Te)
Three chalcogeno chloro Re-4 cluster compounds Re-4(mu(3)-Q)(4)(TeCl2)(4)Cl-8 (Q = S, Se, Te) (1, 2, 3) have been synthesized by the reaction of ReCl5 and elemental Te with elemental S or Se at 400 degrees C (1, 2) or by the reaction of ReCl5 with elemental Te at 350 degrees C (3). All three compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Each of these compounds contains a Re(4)Q(4) cubane-like core with two terminal chloro ligands and one neutral terminal TeCl2 ligand on each Re center.
