Fuel cells are inherently ultra clean, highly efficient, and reliable. Biodiesel and methanol can be used in a blend with conventional fuels without engine modification or without being as pure as a fuel. Biodiesel fueled cell is a variation of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell. The biodiesel fueled cell and direct methanol fuel cell are extremely promising power sources for portable applications due to their simple handling and processing of fuel.
