Enzymes are demonstrated to catalyze the hydrolysis and polycondensation of titanium precursors at room temperature to form nanocrystalline TiO2 with different polymorphs. By the unique combination of enzyme and titanium precursor, nanostructured rutile, anatase, and mixed phases of monoclinic beta-TiO2 and anatase are obtained.
