Drag correlation for axial motion of drops on fibers
The motion of drops on fibers is important to industrial applications such as drop coalescence and drainage in fibrous filter media. This paper reports on experimental results using a Couette flow experimental device to measure drop velocities on fibers resulting from gas flow parallel to the fiber axis. A drag coefficient was defined and correlated to the data. Acoustic vibrations from a speaker were used to initiate drop motion. A second correlation was fitted to the data to predict the fraction of the drops that move in a given flow field. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
