Modeling Mass-Transfer in 3-Phase Distillation
Nonequilibrium (or mass-transfer-rate-based) models have been developed for three-phase (vapor-liquid-liquid) distillation. This represents the first attempt to model three-phase distillation processes with nonequilibrium models. The models are tested against experimental data for the dehydration of ethanol using C(s) hydrocarbon mixtures as entrainer. Good agreement between predicted results and measured data confirms that nonequilibrium models can be developed for simulating three-phase distillation.
