The charge-transfer complexes of aromatic diamines with centrosymmetric DDQs (2,5-dibromo-3,6dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone and 2,5-dichloro-3,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone) were prepared. Their electronic spectra, vibrational spectra and electrical conductivities on compressed powdered materials were measured. From the analysis of the observed absorption intensities and the peak positions charge transfer bands were determined. The broad bands around 2500 and 2850 cm(-1)in the infrared region of the complexes constitute the N-H ... O type hydrogen bonded system. These complexes are electrically insulating.
