A new method is proposed for the extraction of Os(VIII) from its acidic solution with 0.01M Bis-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid (HDEHP). The metal ion from the loaded organic phase is stripped with mixture of thiourea and HCl and then determined by the thiourea method. The method is simple and can be used for the selective extraction and separation of osmium from other metal ions.
