Pd/TPPMS in THF/Water Bi-Phase Mixture: Clean Suzuki Coupling System to Synthesis of High Molecular Weight Polyfluorene Derivative
Hydrosoluble ligand m-sulfonato-phenyl-diphenylphosphine (TPPMS) was applied in Suzuki coupling reaction for synthesis of blue light-emitting polymer, poly [2,7 -(9,9-dioctyl-fluorene)-co-N-(4-(3-methylpropyl)- diphenylaniline]. The polymer with a molecular weight as high as 230,000 and a molecular weight distribution of 1.28 was achieved due to the moderate solubility of TPPMS in both THF and water phase. The use of TPPMS ligand also helped to decrease the Pd residue in polymer product to levels below 10 ppm after only a single cycle of solid scavenger extraction. Published online 25 September 2008
