Influence of stage configuration on flow parameters in a stagewise extraction column
An extraction column with internal plates in the form of alternated discs and rings is studied. Simulations of pulsed turbulent flow operational regimes are made. The stage configuration is varied by changing the geometry parameters of the plates - plate free area and interplate distance. The flow structure is visualised by streamline pictures. They show an existence of permanent vortices in the stage that is also experimentally detected. The turbulent energy characteristics of the now are determined too. Zones of higher energy contents are localised on the Stage and their evolution in position, volume, and intensity is registered as depending on stage geometry. Correspondence between these zones and the zones of intensive drop break-up is experimentally observed.
