Compared CFB combustion and desulfurisation of lignite and bituminous coal
The serious problems Romania's energy sector is currently facing require a large-scale implenentation of up-to-date technologies, characterised by both high efficiency and environmental friendly nature [1]. Since the main fuels used for power generation are local low-grade coal and imported bituminous coal, ICPET-Cercetare has begun a series of experiments comprising laboratory analyses and circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC) and desulfurisation tests. nle rests focused on the combustion of sever;ll lignite and bituminous coal types, with the purpose to develop our own CFBC technology. The test ring used for experiments - a 1 MW CFBC pilot plant - is briefly described, The parameters measured during the tests - temperatures, pollutant emissions - are compared to give an accurate image of the effects of the fuel type, of the operating parameters and the behaviour of the boiler. The desulfurisation was performed by addition of limestone. The tests confirmed that the combustion and desulfurisation of different fuel types can be performed on the same CFBC plant with high efficiency. The results obtained enabled us to accomplish technical designs for CFB boilers.
