METHANE ACTIVATION IN HOMOGENEOUS SYSTEMS
Homogeneous approaches to methane conversion, including organometallic, biological and biomimetic systems, present attractive opportunities for overcoming limitations on direct methane conversion via traditional, high-temperature heterogeneous catalysis. At the same time, of course, they are subject to their own special problems. The chemistry of these systems, their potential advantages and disadvantages, and prospects for practical applications are discussed.
