THE EFFECT OF AGING ON THE VISCOSITY OF BITUMENS PRODUCED FROM SHALE OIL
A series of bitumens having various proportions of maltenes and asphaltenes have been prepared from the Rundle shale oil deposit in Queensland, Australia. Their properties, including aging at elevated temperature in air, have been determined and compared with a petroleum derived bitumen. The aging tests are shown to be consistent with those obtained from asphalts stored at high temperatures for extended periods.
