Novel behaviour in the self-heating of coal filter cake
Coal filter cake was subjected to oven heating tests, with results which were quite inconsistent with the principles of thermal ignition. The unusual combustion behaviour displayed is believed to be due to catalysis by one or more of the inorganic compounds present in the filter cake. Supplementary microcalorimetric measurements on the same material supported the conclusions drawn from the oven heating tests.
