Self-assembly of ligand-free PbS nanocrystals into nanorods and their nanosculpturing by electron-beam irradiation
Oleic acid is removed from the surface of PbS nanocrystals, leading to the formation of densely packed nanorods. The nanorods are sculptured using focused electron-beam irradiation to control the shape, size, and tip morphology. This sculpturing technique has the potential for the production of tailored tips for scanning tunneling microscopy, break junctions for molecular transport measurements, and conductive supports for electric contacts.
