A problem with modern polysulphone membranes is that with some feeds they can suffer from significant fouling, causing serious performance degradation. Here Dr Graeme Pearce, technical director at UK-based Kalsep Ltd, describes a new, chemically modified polysulphone membrane which is claimed to overcome this problem.
