Estimation of surface temperature distributions during heating of particles in fluidized bed
Unsteady heat transfer with internal heat generation takes place during the heating of solid particles in a fluidized bed combustor before the initiation of shrinkages due to burning, i.e., during the period before the inside temperature in the solid particle reaches the medium temperature. The analysis of heat transfer occurring in such particles is essential for accurate predictions of optimum heating requirements, leading to energy savings Such analysis requires an accurate measurement of the surface temperatures of these particles, which is very difficult to achieve in practice. Therefore an analytical model determining surface temperature distributions using either center temperature measurements or other available heat transfer parameters, such as Blot and Fourier numbers is desirable. Such an analytical technique is presented in this article. The present approach is illustrated by an example using two different experimental temperature data sets. Obtained center and surface temperature distributions are plotted for comparison.
