A "green" route to prepare electrodes for lead-acid batteries
A "green" route was used for the preparation of lead-acid battery electrodes from PbCO3. Powder microelectrodes and paste electrodes prepared from PbCO3 were investigated. Results showed that the performances of PbSO4/Pb and PbO2/PbSO4 powder microelectrodes made from PbCO3 were as good as those made from PbO. The positive paste electrode utilization reached 74.4% when discharged at 2.0 mA/cm(2), and negative electrode utilization was more than 90% at the same discharge current density. Thus, this green route to produce PbCO3-type lead-acid battery electrodes could be used.
