The expression of the multicomponent Nernst-Planck equation is derived from the diffusion Stefan-Maxwell equation. An expression of the diffusion coefficient of a species in a multicomponent mixture is given and the coupling coefficient between two diffusing species is defined. The coupling coefficients are not symmetrical. We show that the self diffusion coefficients and the diffusion coefficients have very different values.
