THE ROLE OF THE CELL ENERGETIC STATUS AND POLYAMINES IN PHOSPHOLIPID CONTENT OF MEMBRANES IN ESCHERICHIA-COLI IN THE COURSE OF AEROBIC-ANAEROBIC TRANSITIONS
The aerobic-anaerobic transition of Escherichia coli is accompanied by alteration of the adenylate pool, energy charge, and respiration rate, as well as the phospholipid content of cell membranes and polyamine synthesis. It is assumed that phospholipid metabolism in the cell is controlled by the energy status directly through the energy supply to biosynthetic reactions or indirectly through the activity of the polyamine-synthesizing system.
